July 2009 Update

APOLOGY

We apologise for the lateness in providing the website updates for July.  The August report should shortly follow.

This delay has been occasioned by a decision to put the Keetah property on the market since it has become clear that the 2010 Keetah harvest is unlikely to produce a break-even harvest.  Moreover it is believed that a continuing cash flow drain needed to support Keetah would prejudice operations for Kingsford which is likely to continue producing break-even and beyond.

KINGSFORD GROVE

GENERAL

Rainfall for July was a little less than the long term average of 32.5mm, at 25.6mm.

Temperatures have been cold with maximums ranging from 13 degrees to 16.5 degrees and minimums ranging from -2 degrees to 8.5 degrees.

GROVE ACTIVITIES

Pruning:                  Removal of broken limbs due to harvests has been completed.

Pruning of low branches (less than 80cms from ground) has commenced for Manzanillo.

The principle activity on Kingsford was harvesting.  Please follow link to view Harvest report here.

May 2009 Update

HARVEST REPORT

As reported in the last update Keetah was about 260 tonnes short of pre-harvest estimates.  Kingsford, on the other hand is about 100 tonnes greater than the expected 1200 tonnes.

Unfortunately oil yields were only about 80% of expectations.

Current world oil prices remain low.

KINGSFORD GROVE

GENERAL

Rainfall for May was low at 13mm – about 40% of the long term May average.  Temperatures have been cool to cold with maximums ranging from 13 degrees to 22 degrees and minimums ranging from 2 degrees to 14 degrees.

GROVE ACTIVITIES

Pruning:                   Pruning is ongoing and broken limbs due to harvesting are being removed.

GROVE ACTIVITIES

Irrigation:                 Trees have received between 260 litres/tree and 760 litres/tree.  The big difference was due to  a pump breakdown for the back blocks.  However there was sufficient rain to ensure no damage.

Pruning:                   All broken limbs due to harvesting have been removed.

Slashing:                  Slashing and weed control spraying is continuing.

Pest Control:            About 40% of the grove has been sprayed to inhibit attack by the olive lace bug.

Fertilising:                Fertigation of urea and folia spraying of Sprayphos 400 has been completed.

March/April 2009 Update

APOLOGY

We apologise for not producing a March update.  In March there was less than usual activities mainly due to personnel being engaged in matters associated with the 2009 harvest.

HARVEST TO DATE

Early expectations of the likely crop were a total of around 1800 tonnes of olives.  Keetah produced only 540 tonnes instead of the estimated 800 tonnes.  However, Kingsford has commenced their harvest and it is estimated that around 1200 tonnes will be produced giving a combined total for the two properties of 1740 tonnes.

Unfortunately at this point in time oil prices are at a 7 year low.  The current price is around 46% of that for the 2005/2006 European market prices.

KINGSFORD GROVE

GENERAL

Rainfall was very low in March – less than 5mm.  However, the grove received 36mm in late April.

January 2009 Update

Sale of Kingston Park/Bassano

The sale of the Bassano property has been completed.  However, 1844 megalitres of general security water is still owned by Barkworth.  Directors value this water at $1.5 million.

KINGSFORD GROVE

General

January 2009 has been particularly dry – less than 0.5mm.  However sufficient irrigation has been applied and it is Directors’ and Farm Manager’s view that the grove has never looked healthier.

Temperatures have, in general, been hot with minimums ranging from 5 degrees to 30 degrees and maximums from 30 degrees to 46 degrees.

Fruit set appears to be the best yet.  The Farm Manager expects a crop of 1200 tonnes.

November 2008 Update

Sale
of Kingston Park/Bassano

Sale of 2171 megalitres of general security water was settled on 26 November 2008 and $2,205,000 was paid out to reduce the $5.0M loan.

Settlement of sale of 209 megalitres of high security water is imminent.

With the possible exception of a parcel of 1000 megalitres of general security water, Directors believe the necessary elements of the sale will now be completed by 16 January 2009.

KINGSFORD GROVE

General

Similarly to October rainfall (9mm) November was dry (11mm), only about half the long term average rainfall for the month.  Again it was necessary to irrigate the grove.

Temperatures have been moderate with minimums ranging from 4 degrees to 17 degrees and maximums from 16 degrees to 27 degrees.

It is too early to be definitive but fruit set looks to be fairly good.

Grove Activities for Month

Pruning:                   Removing Removal of broken branches has been completed and pruning of water shoots is continuing.

Irrigation                  90mm has been applied to all trees.

Weed Control:          Round up spraying was completed early in November and sheep remain in the grove.

Slashing:                  Only where the pruning’s need to be mulched.

Pest Control:            A batch of wasps were released to control scale and 4 sites are being monitored.  Wasps have been effective at Kingsford and no insecticide has been needed for 3 years.

KEETAH GROVE

General

November rainfall was excellent (124mm) taking the total to 448mm for the year so far.  Only 65 megalitres of irrigation was needed in November.

November temperatures were hot with maximums ranging between 30 to 36 degrees.

Irrigation:                 As noted above, only 65 megalitres were required during November.

Fertilizing:                Fertilising with Gyp–Flo to the entire grove is continuing into December.

Pest Control:            About one thousand of the trees are slightly affected and spraying with herbicide is continuing.  The unaffected trees are being sprayed (as a precaution measure) with a mixture of mineral oil mixed with sprayphos 400.

Weed Control:          Spraying and slashing along the tree lines continues.

October 2008 Update

Sale
of Kingston Park/Bassano

With the possible exception of a parcel of General Security water of 1000 megalitres (from a total of 4395 megalitres) Directors still believe all elements of the sale will be completed by 16 December 2008.

KINGSFORD GROVE

General

Similarly to September, October was dry with only 9mm compared with the 30mm long term average and it was therefore necessary to apply around 200 megalitres irrigation to the grove.

Temperatures have been moderate with minimums ranging from zero to 16 degrees and maximums from 15 to 36 degrees.

Flowering has commenced and the trees seen to be in good condition – perhaps the best ever.

Grove Activities for Month

Pruning:                   Removal of broken branches and water shoots in the Manzanillo trees continues.

Irrigation                  65mm applied to all trees.

Fertilizing:                Fertigation of nitrogen, Sprayphos, and humic acid.
Foliar:  Calcium and Boron finished early October.

General:                  Sprinklers all checked, 30 trees replaced, several large potholes filled, fox baits laid around parts of grove.

KEETAH GROVE

General

October rainfall (9mm) was considerably drier than September (44mm) and consequently considerably more irrigation was required

October Temperatures were moderate with maximum temperatures ranging from 22 to 36 degrees and minimum temperatures ranging from 7 to 16 degrees.

Flowering was finished by the end of October and it seems that a reasonably good fruit set will occur on the Manzanillo trees. On the other hand flowering was not as           good as last year for the Frantoio trees.

Grove Activities for the Month

Pruning:                   The first stage of pruning is now completed.  It is anticipated pruning will restart in May 2009 immediately after harvest.

Irrigation:                 153 megalitres was applied to the Grove during October.

Fertilizing:                Fertilization of urea was completed is October.  Also a trail liquid Gyp-Flo which commenced in September is continuing.

 September 2008 Update

Sale of Kingston Park/Bassano

The sale of Kingston Park/Bassano is progressing.

The property is being sold as dry land and the water entitlements are being sold separately.  Providing all goes well, all of the elements of the sale will be completed by16 December 2008.

The total value if the sale is in line with directors’ expectations.

KINGSFORD GROVE

General

September has been dry (only 4.2mm compared to 33mm long term average) and irrigation has been undertaken.  Irrigation will continue as needed in the hotter months.

Temperatures have generally been low; minimums have ranged from -2.1 degrees to 9.6 degrees and maximums from 14.6 degrees to 33.9 degrees.

Kingsford had 4 very light frosts and a -2.1 degree frost which was watered prior to the frost so there has been no damage to the trees.

The trees are all starting to move now but too early to tell any extent of what flowering may be like.  The trees are all looking in really good health.

August 2008 Update

Sale of Kingston Park/Bassano

As foreshadowed in previous correspondence (9 April 2008) if the 2007 Rights Issue fell significantly below full subscription, directors must consider selling one of the 3 properties.

The property being sold is Kingston Park/Bassano.

This decision was reached after directors examined the cashflow needs of the group together with the likely harvest revenues of each of the 3 farms.

Whilst it is not possible to be definitive so far from the next harvest (April, May, June 2009), it is relatively certain that the prospects for Bassano are severely compromised by probable lack of water for irrigation.  On the other hand the security of irrigation water in respect of Keetah and Kingsford is more certain because the source is principally from underground water.

Preliminary financial estimates indicate that it will be possible to reduce the $5 M loan (mentioned in the Rights Issue Prospectus dated 2 November 2007) down to $2.0 M and still retain sufficient cash reserves to provide the required nurturing until the 2010 harvest.  It is anticipated that BOGL will operate profitably after this time.

However, Directors conclude it unlikely that any dividends will be paid prior to 2011.It is intended to give a monthly update of BOGL and its activities on the website.

Progress of Remaining Two Farms

KEETAH GROVE

The weather for July and August in terms of temperature and rainfall has been normal.

In July maximum daily temperatures have ranged between 17 degrees and 25 degrees and minimum daily temperatures between -1 and +7 degrees.  In August maximum daily temperatures have been between 18 degrees and 25 degrees and minimum daily temperatures have been between zero and 10 degrees.

July rainfall was 30mm and August rainfall was 41.5mm taking total annual rainfall for this calendar year to 271mm.  If we receive average annual rainfall for the remaining 4 months (September to December) total annual rainfall will be about 505 mm.  Average annual rainfall is 660mm.

Pruning of water shoots on Manzanillo is nearly complete with only about 2.5 thousand trees to finish.

In July air spreading of granulated fertilizer was undertaken.  In August, foliar application of most of the Manzanillo trees was completed.

Budding on the trees has started, it is anticipated that flowering will commence before the end of September.

KINGSFORD GROVE

July has been characterised by very cold weather with light frosts (which are causing no damage).

Rainfall has been below average for July 17mm (about 67% of average) and August 25mm and the yearly total to date is 132mm.  However this has been adequate and there has been no need for irrigation.  The lower rainfall poses no problem because the trees are virtually dormant during this period.  Also generally the trees rely more on irrigation than natural rainfall.

Routine running continues with some slashing of grasses and weeds, foliar and granular fertilizer applications are programmed for September.

Flowering will probably commence Mid October.

Looking Forward

We already have satisfactory offers for most of the assets of Bassano/Kingston Park and it is anticipated that settlement of sale will be consummated by the end of October.

Given the provision of adequate funds from the Bassano sale to maintain optimum nurturing, we estimate Olive Oil production from next harvest will be around double the 2008 harvest at $1.8M and more than $3.0M in 2010 taking the company past the break even point operations.
